I'm unlike today's glut of copywriters and wannabe's -- 'copy cubs' who only write from outmoded formulas, hype artists with scammy junk mail pitches, or 'copywriting gurus' who are perfect studies in greed.  The web is packed with grifters.  People are increasingly hip to their tactics. 

 

Money-grubbing just lowers the image of our profession and harms long-term profitability.  Why trade off customer loyalty, positive word-of-mouth, and recurring sales for short term profits?

 

Old school direct marketers continue to play on dark emotions to win slivers of business in poorly defined niches.  In this era of permission marketing, you must earn admittance to your prospect's inner circle to get attention.  You simply can't force your way past their well-guarded gates with an interruption approach -- that just doesn't work well any more.

 

Some copy writers push dubious tactics to make fast money.  But exploitation fails to achieve lasting success.  People are weary of selling that tries to manipulate them through emotional pressure and psychological trickery.  The problem is, when you treat your customers like targets, they soon feel like targets, and turn you off.  These days, people are increasingly unwilling to be played.  To market successfully, you must earn trust.

 

Your message must surpass approaches that your market is now conditioned to resist.  Simple, sincere, honest exposition of genuine value, backed with believable customer testimony, supported by facts and interesting details, and customer ratings and reviews – this approach wins business in today's sophicticated, jaded markets. 

 

There's a lot more to copy writing than instant cash.  I view things from your customer's perspective.  I write to sell and also to foster customer trust and build brand image and brand equity.  This earns you positive regard which brings more revenue with less effort.

 

I make sure my representations align perfectly with your product's real value because this approach nurtures business relationships.  I practice fair exchange, partly because it 'feels right' but also because business just works better when everyone in the transaction wins.
